Vell began his career as in emcee in the early 1980′s, Reaganomics in the Holy Temple of 39th Street in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri. Known at that time as DRV the Def Rhyme Vocalist who was highly recognized as the emcee of KC. He teamed up with a KC’s most notorious DJ from across the river on the Kansas side. A young teen-ager named DJ Joc Max who was known for his cuts and scratches that had been heard from his basement crosstown by other KC Hip Hop dj’s such as DJ Fresh, and DJ K-Rock (RIP). Vell and Joc Max produced BUST A MOVE that was released on Macola Records in 1988. Vell’s first record on wax.
Vell always had a strong voice. Having sparring sessions on the phone with LL COOL J routinely allowed Vell to keep his bars up. His uncle Larry J was always bringing all the big Hip Hop Concerts to the town(KC).
Vell later came to Cali 1990 to chill with White Ice after he had moved to Cali. While making LA trips and making a few moves in the game, Bakardy who changed hs name since the 80′s, landed a situation with independant label Wild West Records. Wild West which was distributed by American/Warner Bros. Vell set out to release his debut album GENUINE LIQUA HITS. Having collaborated with De Andre Griffith (also produced 2 Pac) produced Vell’s lead single Drink With Me plus worked with AMG on 2 tracks off GLH. Vell also produced several tracks off his debut Geniune Liqua Hits.
